Halsey frees her nipples to fight the ‘stigma around breastfeeding’
In an attempt to remove “social taboo around bodies and breast feeding,” Halsey appeared on social media with her nipple visible for her forthcoming album.
The 26-year-old singer, who was heavily embarassed with her first child with partner Alev Aydin, shared her photo sitting on a throne with a baby in her bed as her new LP ‘If I Can’t Love I Want Power’ announced the concept record of ‘the horrors and the joys of pregnancy and childbirth,’ which gave rise to a speculation that she might have already been born.
Halsey explained the subjects of the album together with a picture from photographer Lucas Garrido: “This album is a concept album about pleasure and the tragedies of pregnancy or infancy. It was really essential for me to hear my experience of the last several months in the cover art.
“The dichotomy of the Madonna and the Whore. The idea that me as a sexual being and my body as a vessel and gift to my child are two concepts that can co-exist peacefully and powerfully.”
After years of feeling like her body “in many different ways,” the “Without Me” hit creator said she “relaims” her “autonomy.”
She added: “My body has belonged in many ways to the world in recent years, and this image is a chance for me to regain my autonomy and to build my pride and power as a lifeblood for my human being.
“This picture on the cover is something lovely that embraces both pregnant and post-partum bodies. We have a long journey to eliminate the societal stigma surrounding bodies and breasts. It’s a start in the right direction, I hope!”
On August 27th, the follow-up to 2020’s Manic — produced by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’ Nine Inch Nails — will be published.
Halsey announced her pregnancy in January by saying that her pregnancy was 100 percent planned. her fertility battle was open and she disregarded rumours about her personal life in the social media.
She has previously said on her Instagram Story: “Why is it right to speculate on fertility and conception and judgement?
“My pregnancy had been 100% scheduled, and for this reason, I tried really hard. But if it was another way, I’d be just as pleased. (sic)”
Speaking about endometriosis in 2016, the ‘You Should Be Sad’ singer spoke frank to her experience with pregnancy loss and revealed she was once miscarriaged in the centre of a concert.
While Halsey said in 2016, the year before her career started, she had also suffered from a miscarriage.
