Batman 2021 is an upcoming American superhero movie based on the character of the same name from DC Comics. Created by and distributed by Warner Bros. by DC Films.
It’s a remake of the Batman movie series. Matt Reeves, who wrote the script with Peter Craig, directs the script. It stars Bruce Wayne / Batman as Robert Pattinson, rounding out the ensemble cast of Zoë Kravitz, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright, John Turturro, Peter Sarsgaard, Barry Keoghan, Jayme Lawson, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell. During Batman’s second year of battling crime, The Batman is set up and accompanies him as he investigates the hypocrisy of Gotham City and meets the Riddler, a riddle-obsessed serial murderer.
Ben Affleck started planning a DC Extended Universe (DCEU) Batman film with Geoff Johns after he was cast as Batman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) and was scheduled to script, write, produce, and star. In January 2017, Affleck stood down as a writer and producer after grappling with the screenplay and focusing on portraying the lead. The next month, Reeves took over directorial and writing duties, reworking the plot to concentrate on a younger Batman and highlight the detective elements of the character rather than previous movies.
In January 2019, Affleck quit the film, and that May, Pattinson was cast as Batman. Afterwards, the film’s references to the DCEU were deleted. Principal photography started in January 2020 in London, England, and is scheduled to end in February 2021. Between March and September, production was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Batman 2021 is delayed and now set to release on March 4, 2022 in the United States. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, its publication was postponed twice from the initial date of June 2021. Although a spin-off prequel television series is in progress for HBO Max, two sequels are planned.

Plot & Premise
Batman 2021: In his second year of battling crime, in addition to coming into contact with a serial murderer known as the Riddler, Batman investigates the injustice that plagues Gotham City and how it could be connected to his own kin.
This is the Batman character’s new solo outing, which was initially conceived as a standalone vehicle within the shared continuity of the DC Expanded Universe for Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne. At first, Affleck sang on to compose and direct (besides starring), but after the failure of Live by Night, he emptied the director’s chair. In 2017, Matt Reeves replaced Affleck, and there were endless rumors that Affleck would not be acting in the film again. Reeves’ goal is to tell a tale that plays into the role of Batman as the best detective in the universe.

Robert Pattinson as Batman (Bruce Wayne)
A billionaire socialite and Wayne Enterprises descendant who, as a masked vigilante, dedicates himself to protecting Gotham City from the criminal underworld. Batman is about 30 years old in the series, and as a crime fighter, he is neither a seasoned superhero nor a novice.
Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman (Selina Kyle):
“In comparison to Batman, who portrays masculinity, Kravitz, who previously voiced the character in The Lego Batman Movie (2017), said that Catwoman represents femininity, and “femininity represents strength, and I think it’s a different kind of power than male power, somewhat more complex, and softer, too.” Kravitz took influence from Michelle Pfeiffer, who played the character in Batman Returns 1992.
Paul Dano as Riddler (Edward Nashton):
A recently emerging suspect who has become obsessed with puzzles. The character is described as a serial murderer in The Batman, attracting similarities to the Zodiac Killer. The Riddler will act as the primary antagonist of the film, according to Reeves.
Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon:
An ally of Batman in the Gotham City Police Department. Wright is the first actor of color to portray the character.
John Turturro as Carmine Falcone: A crime lord of Gotham
Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson: Gotham’s district attorney.
Barry Keoghan as Stanley Merkel: An officer in the Gotham City Police Department.
Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál: A mayor candidate of Gotham.
Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth: Batman’s butler and advisor.
Colin Farrell as Oswald “Oz” Cobblepot (Penguin): A rising crime lord. According to Reeves, the film is set at a time when Cobblepot dislikes being referred to as the Penguin. For the role, Farrell gained weight and wore prosthetic-based makeup.

Release Date
Warner Bros. is set to release The Batman on March 4, 2022 in the United States. It was first scheduled for release on June 25, 2021, until it was postponed back to October 1, 2021, and then to the date of March 2022, both times due to the COVID-19 pandemic after Warner Bros. changed its release schedule.
Filming The Batman
Under the working title Revenge, principal photography began in London in January 2020. Warner Bros. announced the main cast later in the month;[6] In February, Gil Perez-Abraham was reported to have a part, as were Charlie and Max Carver in March. Greig Fraser works as a filmmaker, reuniting with Reeves after working on Let Me In (2010). Scenes at a graveyard were shot in mid-February at the Glasgow Necropolis. In March, Warner Bros. agreed, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, to transfer production to Liverpool. Warner Bros. did not intend to postpone filming on The Batman, unlike other studios with films in progress, but finally did so on March 14 for two weeks.
