Saturday Night Live aka SNL

Saturday Night Live (aka SNL) is an American comedy and variety show produced by Lorne Michaels and developed by Dick Ebersol for late-night live television sketch comedy. On October 11, 1975, under the original title NBC’s Saturday Night, the show debuted on NBC. The comedy sketches of the show, frequently parodying popular culture and politics, are performed by a wide and diverse repertory cast and new members of the cast. A celebrity guest hosts each episode, who typically delivers the opening monologue and performs in sketches with the cast as with a musical guest’s featured performances. Usually, an episode starts with a cold open sketch that ends with someone breaking character and proclaiming, “Live from New York, it’s Saturday Night!” starting the show properly. (wiki)
