Kim Kardashian Declared ‘Legally Single’ As She Won Divorce Bid From Kanye West
Kim Kardashian filed for divorce from American musician Kanye West in February 2021, after seven years of marriage, and asked to be proclaimed legally single. North, 8, Saint, 6, Chicago, 4, and Psalm, 2, are their four children.
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s high-profile divorce case has taken a fresh turn when a Los Angeles court granted permission to dissolve their marriage status on Wednesday.
Kim had filed a bifurcation petition to dissolve her marriage to Kanye, allowing her to change her marital status while other concerns are resolved.

Judge Steve Cochran of the Los Angeles Superior Court issued a ruling in Kim’s favour on Wednesday, saying, “The court allows termination of the marital status.”
The 44-year-old rapper had spoken out against the divorce and made a public plea for his wife to return to their relationship.
Kanye West allegedly sacked his third lawyer Chris Melcher and hired a new lawyer to defend him in his divorce dispute with estranged wife Kim Kardashian ahead of a critical court hearing on Wednesday.
According to Times Read, Kanye’s relationship with Chris “had gotten exceedingly tough, with minimal communication,” so the 44-year-old musician booted him from the divorce proceedings.
According to a source, Kanye kept changing his mind about whether he wanted to resolve things with Kim, 41, amicably or fight like he did when he objected to her original divorce requests.
On Instagram, Kanye openly chastised Kim for her parenting and her new connection with comedian-actor Pete Davidson, escalating their animosity.
According to accounts, Kim’s paperwork was not completed appropriately. The only mistake was that the records listed Kanye’s name as Kanye West, but after the filings were filed, he changed his name to Ye, and the divorce documents were updated to reflect this.
When the judge signed the order, no more requirements were set. Kim is also said to have been on a video call that she taped from her home’s closet so there would be no interruptions — i.e. her four children!
Kim Kardashian’s wish to be a single lady has come true when a court accepted her plea to dissolve her marriage to Kanye West. Kim will be recognised simply as Kim Kardashian from now on… the West is no longer with us.
For Wednesday’s court session, Kim was on a video conference with her lawyer, Laura Wasser, who was in court, and Kanye was not there. Kanye’s lawyer did not oppose to Kim’s single status being restored, but he did so on three conditions: 1. any entitlement to reimbursement of money that was intended to be shared shall be kept in the event that either of them dies… the judge approved that condition.
The judge also rejected two additional conditions: Kim would not transfer any assets held in trust and would relinquish the “marital privilege” if she remarried. A new spouse would not have to testify about communications he had with her because of this privilege. That was rejected by the judge.
Kim finished the hearing by answering a series of “prove up” questions, which included, “Are there issues in your relationship?” “Do you believe your marriage can be salvaged with counselling?” and “Do you think your marriage can be saved with counselling?” Kim replied “yes” to the first question and “no” to the second.
According to a source close to Kanye, he wanted the divorce to be granted as well. He, too, is now a single man.
According to Times Read, Kanye just fired his fourth divorce attorney, Chris Melcher… we’re told Kanye and Melcher had limited contact, making the relationship incredibly tough. Kim filed for divorce a little more than a year ago. We’re also informed Melcher was thrown for a loop, with Kanye wanting a divorce one day and fighting for the marriage the next.
Since December, when she claimed in court documents, “I very much wish to get divorced,” Kim has been petitioning the Court to reinstate her single status. She also claimed that she had urged Kanye to keep their divorce quiet, which he had refused to do, and that his social media posts had caused her “emotional suffering.”
Kanye and his legal team fought back, arguing that the couple’s prenup should be declared null and void, and even questioning if Kanye made the scathing social media postings — FYI, he claimed he wasn’t hacked.
Of course, Kim and her team thought this was all a delaying ploy, given Kanye’s repeated overtures in an attempt to get her back, even if it meant insulting her and her new boyfriend, Pete Davidson.
