Watch Disney’s Pinocchio Teaser: Tom Hanks To Star As Geppetto In The Live-Action Movie
The live-action version of the 1940 Disney classic Pinocchio, starring Tom Hanks, will premiere on Disney+ on September 8. The movie is directed by Robert Zemeckis and starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Cynthia Erivo, Keegan-Michael Key, Luke Evans, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, and Lorraine Bracco, will be released on Disney+ on September 8th.
Tom Hanks, fresh off the Cannes debut of “Elvis,” stars in Disney+’s live-action “Pinocchio” adaptation, which will premiere on September 8 as part of Disney+ Day. Geppetto, the puppeteer who pines for a son, is played by Tom Hanks.
The Blue Fairy, played by Cynthia Erivo, grants Geppetto’s desire and transforms the puppet Pinocchio into a real boy, who is portrayed by 13-year-old Benjamin Evan Ainsworth. Jiminy Cricket, the animated narrator, is played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Also starring are Lorraine Bracco, Luke Evans, and Keegan-Michael Key. Below is the first trailer for the film.
Disney’s live-action “Pinocchio” has been in production since 2015, based on Carlo Collodi’s 1883 Italian novel and the 1940 Disney movie. While a host of writers and filmmakers were previously associated to the project, including “Paddington” director Paul King, Hanks’ longtime partner Robert Zemeckis took over as director. Along with “Wonka” screenwriter Simon Farnaby and 2015’s “Cinderella” writer Chris Weitz, the “Back to the Future” and “Polar Express” scribes co-wrote the script.
The Blue Fairy performs the renowned song “When You Wish Upon a Star,” a melody that originally belonged to Jiminy Cricket, in the teaser trailer for the live-action “Pinocchio.” With Erivo donning the Blue Fairy makeup before later changing green as Elphaba for Universal Pictures’ “Wicked,” showcasing Grammy, Emmy, and Tony Award winner Erivo’s voice, who portrays the Blue Fairy, is a no-brainer for the film.
The Disney+ rendition of “Pinocchio” is not to be confused with Guillermo del Toro’s Netflix adaptation of the same name. The stop-motion animated film, starring David Bradley as Geppetto, will be released in December 2022. Sebastian J. Cricket, the narrator of the imaginative tale, is voiced by Ewan McGregor.
Gregory Mann plays the eponymous “real kid” Pinocchio, while the ensemble cast also includes Finn Wolfhard, Cate Blanchett, John Turturro, Ron Perlman, Tim Blake Nelson, Burn Gorman, Christoph Waltz, and Tilda Swinton.
In contrast to previous, CG-dominated family folk stories like “The Polar Express” and “Christmas Carol,” Zemeckis embraces more live-action here than in recent, CG-dominated family folk tales like “The Polar Express” and “Christmas Carol.” With “The Witches,” based on Roald Dahl’s novel, he most recently delivered another live-action feature based on a children’s story to Disney+.
The film is directed by Robert Zemeckis (Forrest Gump), and it stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Jiminy Cricket, Cynthia Erivo as the Blue Fairy, Keegan-Michael Key as “Honest” John, and Luke Evans as the wicked Coachman. Sofia the Seagull, played by Lorraine Bracco, is a new character.
“Pinocchio” will start streaming on September 8, only on Disney+.
